Melbourne practitioner receives national recognition from Incisal Edge magazine
Melbourne, Fla. (July 15, 2020) – Incisal Edge, a nationwide magazine covering the dental profession, has named Dr. Matthew Sheldon as one of the top 40 dentists in the country under age 40.
Dr. Sheldon is a dentist at Solid Bite, a reconstructive periodontal and dental practice in Melbourne, Fla., where his services to patients include crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures, cosmetic dental care and all aspects of implant restorations.
His father, Dr. Lee Sheldon, is the founder of Solid Bite. The practice at 2223 Sarno Road has been operating for more than 30 years in Melbourne. It also includes Dr. Michel Furtado and a team of more than 20 support staff.
The magazine’s annual “40 Under 40” award honors what it calls “America’s rising stars” in dentistry. Joseph McGrath of Benco Dental nominated Dr. Sheldon, who received supporting documentation for the award from Solid Bite office manager Danyel Salmela and lead restorative dental assistant Katie Dennison.
“I can’t tell you how much of an honor it is to receive this award,” said Dr. Sheldon. “So many dental professionals around the country are nominated, which means a lot of people vying for only 40 spots. To have this magazine name me as a ‘40 Under 40’ is exciting – not just for me, but for everyone on the Solid Bite team.”
Teamwork, he said, is one of the things that has made his practice so successful.
“Everybody pitches in,” he said. “The whole office deserves credit for this award. I’m very thankful for my outstanding colleagues and co-workers here who are so helpful.”
Dr. Sheldon earned a bachelor of health science degree at the University of Florida and a doctorate of dental medicine at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He also has a certificate in advanced education in general dentistry from Texas A&M Health Science Center.
His continuing education includes advanced courses at the Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, Fla., and Spear Education in Scottsdale, Ariz. – both world-renowned centers for dental education.
“With rapid advances in technology and innovation, it’s important to keep up as much as possible,” Dr. Sheldon said. “Ongoing coursework helps me to stay on top of things.”
Dr. Sheldon’s professional affiliations include presidency of the Brevard County Dental Society, as well as membership in the Florida Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Florida Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Florida Dental Association and other organizations.
